Pros: 

Aesthetically, the 1280X/42 SensoTouch 3D Electric Razor is very stylish and elegant with its sleek, chromed body which has the shaver head perched on top at an angle. The rugged, ergonomic body is designed to be easy to grip to maximize control and comfort. We feel that Philips have got the styling and ergonomics spot on with this model.

The shaver can be used either dry or wet for shaving in the shower with foam thanks to the AquaTec seal.

The Philips Norelco 1280X utilizes GyroFlex 3D technology which uses three dynamic parts in the head that each move independently of each other by pivoting and flexing in any direction to follow the curves of your face and jaw line for a closer shave and greater comfort.

Other technologies used as part of the shaving system are the patented Super Lift & Cut dual blade system which has the role of lifting hair below your skin level so you’re left with super smooth skin. Additionally, the UltraTrack head uses 3 specialized shaving tracks to handle different types of hair including long hair, longer hairs and short stubble. Charging times are excellent. The 1280X/42 uses a lithium-ion battery that can be fully charged in just 1 hour which gives you up to 60 minutes of cordless shaving. Keeping tabs on the current battery life level is easy with the 5-level LED indicator situated on the shaver body. A very handy feature is that the razor displays the time left remaining in its battery on an LCD display so you know exactly how many minutes of shaving time you have left.

For ease of maintenance, the shaver comes with a Jet Clean system which automatically cleans and lubricates the razor, then charges it ready for your next shave. With 3 cleaning settings (Normal, Eco or Intensive) you can put the razor through the jet clean system daily or just a few times a week.

Cons:

There is some debate over whether the Jet Clean system is worth it as it does require cleaning fluid to operate and takes up quite a lot of space on your counter. However, it is easier for you than manually cleaning the blades and shaver head with hot water.

Once the razor has been fully charged it has to be removed from the charging stand or the jet cleaning system else the battery can be damaged.

The built-in trimmer isn’t all that. It’s rather small and doesn’t compare to a dedicated trimmer.
